Any equipment containing a laser or LED (light emitting diode) must conform to ISO BS EN 60825-1:2007 to ensure it is safe for use.
LOE has considerable experience in testing products to ensure compliance with this standard. This typically includes:
- Children’s toys containing coloured LEDs
- Remote control units containing infra red LEDs
- LED based lighting systems
- Christmas decorations
- Home depilatory equipment
Items are tested using an MPE (Maximum Permissible Exposure) meter whose accuracies are traceable to the Health Protection Agency’s (formerly NPL) standards.
Once your product has been tested, we will issue you with a report highlighting the type of device used, its spectral output and power characteristics, together with a certificate of the Classification of Laser Device to assist with product labelling.
As LEDs become progressively more powerful, legislation will become tighter. Managing Director, Prof. John Tyrer acts as advisor to the European CEN-TC61 Toy Safety Committee so LOE are at the forefront of these changes. |
