Two recent papers highlight the benefits of diffractives to weld processes
Laser Optical, in associatilon with researchers at Loughborough University, have published research about the benefits of using diffractives to control the process of welding to allow greater uniformity of repairs and work. Details of the papers and the pdfs are below:

SAMPE Europe Event, Composites: Innovative Materials for Smarter Solutions
Dr Lobo presented a paper at the 30th International Jubilee Conference in Paris on 25th March. Entitled "Residual lifetime prediction of bonded composite structures using in-plane laser shearography" the paper generated lots of interest from the other delegates who primarily came from Europe.

DOE's improve laser metal deposition
A report published in Laser Focus World highlights a step-change for laser welding. The work undertaken by researchers at Loughborough University uses diffractive optical elements (DOE's) made by Laser Optical Engineering which allow grain size control, reduced alloy migration and minimise the residual stresses in processing. Supervised by Prof. Tyrer, Matt Gibson's work is a clear indication that DOE's have a significant part to play in process engineering. Read the article here...
